Summer Reading Challenge for Kiddos + Adults!
Our Summer Reading Challenge has officially begun! Stop by the shop or print out your own copy of our Book Bingo cards: adult bingo and kids bingo.
Here’s how it works:
Write the title of the book you read in the square of the prompt it completes (Ex: in the square that says "read a book that's also a movie," you might write "The Sky Is Everywhere"). A book can only be used once, no double dipping prompts!
When you have completed five in a row (including the freebie), bring your card back to the shop to claim your first prize.
Keep reading! When you have completed the entire card, turn it in with your name and email address for your second prize.
Last day to turn in your BINGO card is Tuesday, September 6th.
The prizes:
BINGO (five squares in a row) gets the kids a free scoop at Jeni’s Ice Cream and adults a free scoop at Kilwins while supplies last. Completing the entire Bingo card gets you 10% off your entire in-store purchase.
LET’S GET TO READING:
Don’t know where to start? We’re here to help! The kids bingo card includes recommendations by age range from our Kids Book Buyer, Melissa aka @TheBookMommy. Melissa also shared some great tips to keep your kids reading all summer long earlier on the blog.
For some laughs to fulfill the “Read Something Funny” prompt, General Manager Jen recommends Skinny Dip, an absolute bonkers beach read about murder and revenge. Events Manager Hannah loved Skye Falling, a charming, emotional, and unconventional love story. Assistant Manager Angie adores everything Samantha Irby writes, but We Are Never Meeting in Real Life is her favorite essay collection. And sci-fi fans will enjoy The Murderbot Diaries series, following a sassy and lovable security unit and their found family.
For the prompt “Make a Recipe from a Book,” we suggest Mia P. Manansala’s cozy mystery, Arsenic and Adobo. Not only is it a fantastic read, but she includes recipes of the Filipino food mentioned throughout the book at the end! For a more literal interpretation of the prompt, check out Rick Martinez’ cookbook, Mi Cocina, for some great Mexican recipes, and Nicole Taylor’s cookbook, Watermelon and Red Birds to celebrate Juneteenth!
To fill the “Listen to an Audiobook” prompt, check out our Libro.fm page for monthly recommendations! Buying your audiobooks through Libro.fm supports local bookstore, unlike Amazon-owned Audible.
