Virtual Events Keep "March"ing On

Since we closed our Union Street doors at the end of February to prepare for our move to our forever home at 130 S Royal, our team has been hard at work behind-the-scenes to prepare our beautiful new space for our customers. In between the alphabetizing, trips up and down stairs for pick-ups, and the seemingly endless mountains of cardboard, we’ve also found time to host and participant in some lovely online events.

We started off the month discussing We Run the Tides by Vendela Veda for our Old Town Books Book(s) Club. Here’s what OTB bookseller Angie had to say about the event: “It was a really fun discussion. There were a whole 9 of us, but that’s okay because I love our smaller group book clubs. I feel like everyone gets a chance to talk without feeling rushed. So many great insights about the book that I hadn’t initially thought of while reading!”

We celebrated Women’s History Month with a special panel featuring renowned career advisor Laurie Ruettimann; the president of Emily’s List, Stephanie Schriock; and the Vice President of Communications for EMILY’s List, Christina Reynolds. As a shop founded and run by women, we love to highlight competent and powerful individuals in their fields.

We said hello to springtime with a special chat between our proprietor, Ally Kirkpatrick, and local florist Laura Hooper of Foxhill Garden. They held a gardening Q&A and offered advice for growing dahlias, as well as discussing the new book Discovering Dahlias by Erin Benzakein. Be sure to follow us online and subscribe to our newsletter to be among the first to know when our floral pop-up comes to town this spring!

March Book Club News Round-Up:

  • Our beloved Bad Romance Book Club dove deep on Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers. Join them in April to discuss Deception and Hidden Sins by Selena Montgomery (aka THE Stacey Abrams!); mention BRBC at check-out and get 10% off while you get added to the invite.

  • Our Sci-fi/Fantasy club discussed Winter’s Orbit, billed as Ancillary Justice meets Red, White & Royal Blue! This month, they’ll be chatting about Mike Chen’s We Could Be Heroes. Click here to sign up.

  • OTB’s new Murder by the Book Club dissected The Babysitter by Liza Rodman and Jennifer Jordan. Join us on April 5th to chat with the authors themselves!

    • Here’s some insight from Floor Manager Abby: “We discussed topics from what constitutes a ‘babysitter’ to how grim 1970s Cape Cod was. Like most conversations about crime and murder, we balanced the line between some lighthearted armchair diagnoses and serious speculation on how mental health treatment has changed in the last thirty so years. As always, it was a fun conversation between like-minded readers in preparation for our discussion with the authors next month!”

We are open daily from 10 AM - 4 PM for browsing and pick-ups at our new location! Our book-loving community is also gathering online for book clubs, workshops, and more. Whether you’re a fan of poetry, true crime, writing workshops, or just books in general, we’ve got an exciting roster of events coming up this spring for you! Thank you, as always, for all of your support - we can’t wait to see you, in person or during one of our online events.
